cropping and costumes

October 22, 2007

it was a semi-busy, semi-relaxing weekend in our household. after work on friday, a co-worker and i headed to kennesaw for a close to my heart workshop. it was a lot of fun, and i’m really excited to start cropping with the women in my meetup group. they all seem really cool. i bought a set of stamps, and now i have to pick out something else to buy to go toward our hostesses party. the problem is, it’s too hard to decide. i want a lot of the items in the catalog! here’s the latest page i did to enter into our group’s contest. the theme is to scrapbook a day of the week.

sabbath lunch

on saturday, i ended up sleeping until almost 11 a.m. (this arthritis is kicking my butt. when will the enbrel get back in my system??), so i missed church. i made a yummy lunch for us: baked chicken (vegetarian buffalo wings for me!), wild rice and corn.

after an afternoon of reading, relaxing and scrapping, it was time to prepare for tim and mindy’s halloween party. as i mentioned earlier, we decided to change our costumes. i went as andie anderson from “how to lose a guy in 10 days”.

joe went as the transporter.

now, two people showed up in regular clothes. when asked what they were, valerie said, “oh, i’m an extra”, and david said, “i’m, uh, bud bundy.” bud bundy who’s not even in a movie. then, *they* won prizes for their costumes! what’s up with that?? at least we picked characters from our favorite movies, as was the theme. oh well.

sunday was spent relaxing and watching another playoff blow-out as the red sox beat the indians to advance to the world series. yay. and now, it’s monday again. next weekend seems so far away.

girl’s night out

October 19, 2007

one of my co-workers and i are going out for a girl’s night tonight. i’m really excited. i joined a scrapbooking meetup group in kennesaw, and tonight is a get together with a demonstration by a close to my heart consultant. i haven’t really heard much about this company, but i’ve browsed its web site, and i’m excited to see what kinds of products they offer. it’s too bad tonight’s not an actual crop night because i am *so* far behind in my scrapbooking (i’m still working on march in our family scrapbook and i’ve only done 3 pages in ryan and ori’s wedding scrapbook), but it will still be fun to hang out with a bunch of girls. besides, i haven’t been in a scrapbooking mood lately, so hopefully this will help get me out of my funk!

one of joe’s friends is having his annual halloween party this weekend. we’ve never gone, but this year we don’t have anything else going on. i’m not really one for dressing up. i always feel weird. and this party always has a theme, which i don’t really like. for me, it makes it harder. but, we think we’ve come up with pretty creative costumes. this year’s theme is movie characters. we’re going as extras: “guy by a sign” and “girl on a bench”. haha. we’re going to wear signs saying what we are and maybe type up a page of a “script” with our parts highlighted. i think it’s a cool idea because no one else will think to do that.

so what do you think: creative or copout?

birthday fun

October 6, 2007

i just remembered i forgot to tell you all about joe’s birthday! i think he had a pretty good one. on saturday night, i surprised him by inviting some of his friends to meet us for dinner. it was funny because when we walked in, he saw tim but not everyone else, and he thought, oh cool. tim’s here too. what a coincidence. then he saw everyone else and was quite surprised.

i gave him his present monday night because i had a meeting tuesday night, and he was seeing a movie tuesday night with his dad. he absolutely loved the map. he had fun looking at the detailed drawings of every park. i can’t wait for us to be able to put the stickers on the stadiums we’ve already been to.

on tuesday, i had a cake ready for him. yum.

i think he had a fun birthday. tonight, we went to brandon and emma’s new house for a housewarming/brandon’s birthday party. it was a lot of fun. joe and i hung out with some of the guys downstairs for a while watching the yankees/indians game. i hope we didn’t look like we were too antisocial! afterward, we hit up cicis for our usual dinner. yum.

tomorrow, we’re heading up to my parents’ to see my aunt and uncle who are visiting from california, and to celebrate joe and oriona’s birthdays. then, on sunday, we’re going to joe’s parents’ to celebrate three birthday’s: joe’s, my mil’s and my sil’s. yet another busy, busy weekend.

cops and surprises

September 29, 2007

there is never a dull day here at casa de schulman. we woke this morning after a night of little sleep and discovered the dog that had kept us up most of the night with its howling was in our neighbor’s backyard. the only problem with that was that we hadn’t seen our neighbors in several days. there was no food or water left out for the dog, so we filled a bowl with water and then went to the store to buy it some food.

later this afternoon, i looked out our bedroom window and saw our neighbor’s car. then, i saw her with three sheriff’s deputies. joe and i sat on the bed peering out the window and trying to see if we could tell what was going on. when they left, he went over to get our bowl and let our neighbor know we had fed the dog.

apparently, her boyfriend had brought the dog home from work, and the boyfriend is now the ex-boyfriend since there are warrants out for his arrest. yes, people, he’s been out of prison for three weeks and already is wanted. she said they got in a really big fight the other night and the neighbors across the street called the police. her ex-boyfriend “jumped out of the window” when the police arrived and fled. he’s now wanted for domestic violence and cruelty to children.

my neighborhood is better than an episode of jerry springer.

tonight, i took joe out for his birthday dinner and surprised him by inviting some of his friends, one of whom he hasn’t seen since our wedding. we had a great time, and he was totally surprised. however, our waiter was the worst one i’ve ever had. he dumped a pitcher of ice water on my foot and then walked off without an apology or an offer to bring me some napkins. then, he took my plate without asking if i was done (i like to pick at my food while i talk) and he brought everyone drink refills except for me. joe had to pointedly ask him about it. i can overlook the little things, but dumping the water on me really irked me. it was freezing. i would have been ok with it if he had apologized. but he didn’t.

now we’re off to eat some yummy chocolate mocha ice cream and watch some tv we dvr’d during the week. have a nice night!

how suite it is

September 23, 2007

me and joe at braves game

sitting in a suite is defintely the best way to watch a baseball game. i don’t know how i’ll go back to the regular seats now! as joe and i sat in the box, we saw people on the lower level fanning themselves. why are they doing that, i thought. it’s not hot out. then i remembered that i was under an overhang with a fan blowing on me. hehe.

we had the best time today. it was a fantastic game. the braves were down 4-1 and managed to come back and win 7-4. it was really awesome and a great way to end the home season. the funniest thing happened. we were walking in, heading toward the escalators, and i saw sara! i didn’t really recognize her at first (she looked different than her pics!), but i definitely recognized her daughter and fiance! it was so random. i looked over and said, “hey, isn’t that sara??” so, we caught up with them and talked for a few minutes. she is so sweet!

we also met up with jon, one of joe’s best friends, and that was a blast. i haven’t seen him since our wedding! now we’re home, and it’s back to the routine. it’s too bad today had to end.

September 21, 2007

joe’s friend jon gave him a call this morning.

jon: hey, what are you doing sunday?

joe: going to the braves game.

jon: me too. where are you sitting?

joe: lexus suites.

jon: heh. me too.

looks like we’ll be able to hang out with jon while we’re in the lexus suites. did i mention we are going to be sitting in the LEXUS SUITES? where all the corporate bigwigs take clients and potential clients? in the air conditioning? joe’s mom works at cnn and won tickets for the last home game of the season. last year we got more tickets from her, but this year we just didn’t have time to go to games. bummer. the funny thing is someone else in her office won a parking pass for the game. haha…a parking pass but no ticket.s how much does that suck? anyway, we are so excited. we just hope our suite will have free food!
