my car got hit by a ladder today. ok. stop laughing. really. i went to taco bell because i was in the mood for a burrito, and as i was waiting in the drive-thru line, a ladder fell over and hit my car.

our taco bell has been going through a remodel, but i really expected the construction workers to take care of their equipment and, you know, not leave ladders leaning precariously against rocks when it is incredibly windy outside.

i drove through the drive-thru and walked over to the building, trying to find someone to help me. the first person said, “no speak english.” sure. the second person said the same thing, yet he understood me when i told him to find someone who speaks english. the painters inside were very nice, and they pointed the ladder’s owner out as he tried to gather his equipment and leave without me noticing him.

he didn’t luck out. i haven’t been having a good day, so he got all my fury as i told him what happened.

“we were just inside for a few minutes,” he said, as if that was an explanation.

“i don’t care,” i said. “you don’t leave equipment leaning like that when it’s this windy out.”

“i’m not God. i can’t do anything about the wind,” he said.

obviously not. however, it has been incredibly windy all day. that might have been a hint to, oh, lay the ladder flat on the ground. imagine that.

so now i have to call my insurance agent, take my car in for quotes (which i don’t have time for) and fight with this company about paying for it. at least i learned a lesson from all this: never go to a fast food restaurant when they are doing work on it.

Sorry honey. Hopefully the damage isn’t bad. Tonight we’ll kick back and forget about it for a while!

    Wow. That sucks.

Here, all the Taco Bells are closed because of the E Coli outbreak!

Argh. I think you could go after the manager of the Taco Bell. SOMEBODY is responsible for that garbage!

I really hope it’s only a small headache for you. 🙂

Wow, I just sounded really sue-happy there. Sorry for the aggression. Lol.

Take it from someone who works with contractors every single day… 99.9% of them don’t have a brain. Don’t get me wrong, they are brilliant at their trade and I certainly don’t have the skills to build a wall, but they honestly do not think. I spend a good portion of every day checking up on our construction projects throughout the building because if I don’t they will drag drywall dust over all the black marble floors, or some other stupid thing. Today the electricians shut off the electricity to part of a vacant suite that’s being worked on, but also shut off the power to a current tenant’s fridge. Brilliant!

Fight with them about your car, because every legitimate contractor has insurance to cover just that type of thing. Taco Bell will most definitely have received a certificate of insurance from them before they started working, so you can fight Taco Bell as well.

  6. Oh my gosh!! That is just ridiculous.

  7. ( I mean they need to take total responsibility!!)
