2 hours left

December 31, 2006

it’s amazing how quickly 2006 went by. it was a wonderful year, but seemed as though it just sped past me. now, with only two hours and 12 minutes left in the year, i’m reflecting back.

  • we attended or were in four weddings — ours, ryan’s, rachel’s and our friend tim’s.
  • i married the man of my dreams in the wedding of my dreams.
  • joe got a much better job, moving out of journalism and up the chain of public relations.
  • my best friend got engaged.
  • i reconnected with friends from high school and elementary school, some of whom i never thought i’d talk to again.

i know many more things of significance occurred, but honestly, these are the ones that stick out the most. the major thing, as you all know, were all the weddings, especially my brother’s which happened two and a half weeks after ours. whew.

so far, we only know of two weddings in 2007 — my best friend’s, which i’m in, and a cousin of joe’s, which will be held on our anniversary weekend. for that reason, we are contemplating not going. we really want to, but we also want our first wedding anniversary to be special.

another big event in 2007 is our planned trip to cooperstown, n.y. for the baseball hall of fame induction. my favorite baseball player of all time, cal ripken jr., is on the list of potential inductees, but there’s not a doubt in my mind that he’ll make it. i think he’ll be unanimous, while joe thinks some jerky voters will hold out because he didn’t play as well the last few years of the streak. i can’t believe it’s already been five years since i met him after a press conference at turner field during his farewell tour and watched the game from the orioles’ dugout, sitting not even five feet from the man i grew up watching as a child in maryland. whether we were at memorial park and later camden yards with our season tickets or watching the game at home, i cheered him on. to be able to shake his hand and chit chat with him as i gave him a column i had written for the sports section of the newspaper i worked at was definitely one of my biggest dreams. to be there when he is inducted into the hall of fame will be another.

there are many big names on the ballot — cal, tony gwinn, mark mcguire, jose canseco, don mattingly — and i remember collecting their baseball cards when i was younger. how time flies.

yes, 2006 was a fantastic year, the best so far, but i know 2007 will be even better. in 2007, not only will i be settled into my life married to my husband, but we plan to start trying to have a baby . . . if everything works out the way they’re supposed to. even if we don’t, i know it still will be a great year. i can’t wait!

how i use my time

December 28, 2006

i’m finally getting close to being caught up on my scrapbooking. i have two pages left to be done until new year’s eve. i may get them finished before then, but we’ll see. i really like the christmas and hanukkah pages. here’s what i’ve managed to do:

the luckiest

December 28, 2006

i found this video of the song that our soloist sang at our wedding. i was trying to post the video on here, but i can’t figure it out. maybe that’ll happen eventually. 🙂 the song is “the luckiest” by ben folds. it’s such a sweet song. let me know what you think!

blah

December 28, 2006

as i mentioned before, my parents gave me this neat point-and-shoot video camcorder for christmas. however, none of the retailers listed on the company’s web site process dvds from it. so now i can take videos but that’s about as far as it goes. blah. and, of course, when you call the manufacturer you get a recording telling you to leave your name and number and a customer service representative will call you back. typical.

yesterday, joe’s sister gave me a cd of pictures she took at my wedding shower, bachelorette party and wedding. some are the same as those my photographer took, but some aren’t. i love these pictures.

i love the last one, and so does joe. it’s so much fun seeing the pictures other people took. we’ve gotten so many pictures from people — ed, edsel, julisa and rachel. it’s pretty cool!

i saved the best for last

joe gave me the most amazing presents this year. as i mentioned before, he gave me an ipod for my christmas present during hanukkah, and a beautiful diamond circle necklace for christmas. we opened our presents together on saturday because we were going to my parents’ on christmas eve, and when i opened the present there was a wedgewood bone china box. it was pretty, but then when i opened it i saw my necklace. i’ve been wanting one for a long time. i absolutely love it. now, i have a beautiful china box *and* necklace.

christmas

December 27, 2006

we had a fantastic christmas. joe and i headed up to my parents’ house for christmas eve for our traditional chow mein dinner. i took the peppermint cake i made, and everyone just had to try it, even though it was meant for christmas day. it was delicious, if i do say so myself. 🙂 i put a little bit of peppermint extract in the batter as well as the frosting, so it tasted really good.

after dinner, we opened presents. my parents got me a digital picture frame, which is really cool. you can download the pictures from the cameras memory card onto the frame, which is much more handy then having to leave the memory card in it. my parents also gave me a little digital video camera. it’s really cool. it’s small enough to fit in my purse and has a built-in usb port that pops right out to hook up to the computer. we really wanted a video camera, so this was awesome. it holds 30 minutes at a time, but it’s perfect for what we need right now. we’re going to get a nicer one once we start our family.

on christmas day, joe’s parents came up for dinner. it was really nice, and our parents get along really well, so everyone had a lot of fun. it also was nice for joe’s parents to meet my grandparents. they didn’t get a chance to actually meet at the wedding. hehe.

after dinner we all sat around and talked for several hours. joe’s parents had to head back and forgo our movie tradition, and joe and i skipped out too since it was already 5 p.m. and i still had to go to work once we got back to cartersville.

this week, joe and i are both off work. we don’t go back until next wednesday, which is really nice. today we used the gift cards we got in our stockings and had lunch at cracker barrel and then went shopping at walmart to pick up some things we needed for the apartment. our plan now is to relax and get ready for our new year’s eve party. the other highlight of the week is friday when joe is picking up my parents’ china cabinet. yay. i finally will have a place to put my dishes. our kitchen is tiny, and there isn’t enough cabinet space for dishes and glasses. i don’t even have cabinet space for food. i have a tiny little pantry for that, and there isn’t even enough room in there since i also have to use it to store baking dishes. blah. so the china cabinet may make my dining room a little more cramped, but it will be very, very welcome.
